At LOCKGREEN™, we know Responsible Consumers across the country, and it is our mission to offer high-quality products that provide protection, promote safety, and support their values. Responsible Consumers don’t have just one look – they span all ages, races, locations, and professions – rather they have a set of shared values that guide their approach to cannabis overall. We know that Responsible Consumers:
Know and follow the law
The best way to be a Responsible Consumer and avoid legal trouble is to learn the laws of your state and follow them. The legality of marijuana is complex, with rules differing from state to state and marijuana still being classified as an illegal Schedule 1 drug under federal law. When doing your research, pay attention to details such as: on-person carry limits, the ability to grow at home, employment laws, rules around public consumption, medical patient guidelines, travel mandates, and more.
For example, as of July 1, 2021 in Virginia:
(Excerpt taken from Virginia NORML’s Virginia Marijuana Legalization FAQs)
- Possession by adults 21+ of up to one ounce in public
- Personal cultivation of up to 4 plants per household by adults 21+ at their primary residence
- Adult-sharing of up to one ounce in private without remuneration
- Public consumption
- Possession or consumption by anyone under 21
- Selling or purchasing cannabis seeds or cannabis products
- Selling or purchasing cannabis outside of the medical program
- Consumption in a motor vehicle while being driven (passenger or driver)
- Open container in a vehicle
You should always travel with medical or recreational marijuana in a locked container to avoid law enforcement making “permissive inference” that you have consumed marijuana or marijuana products in violation of Virginia’s open container laws. LOCKGREEN™ provides locking, smell-proof, and water-resistant stash boxes to offer the protection that you need to safely store your goods and travel within the law.
What You Need to Know about Virginia Legalizing Cannabis for Recreation Use on July 1st, 2021
How to safely and legally travel with cannabis in Virginia
Respect Adult-Use Only
Even though marijuana is now legal in a growing number of states, it is still illegal in those places for adults to sell or share marijuana with anyone under 21 years of age unless they are a medical cannabis patient. This behavior can lead to serious consequences, because with any suspicion that an adult is sharing weed with kids, the cops are going to investigate. Responsible Consumers hope and expect for young people to grow up to be responsible adults, and they know it is their obligation to demonstrate what that means by their actions.
Lock it up! Ensure that your kids – and other uninvited people and pets – keep their hands off of your goods by storing it in a LOCKGREEN™ locking, smell-proof, and water-resistant stashbox.
Respect the Rights of Others
You appreciate cannabis. Others might not. That’s ok! Responsible Consumers will follow the public consumption laws and observe accepted standards of courtesy by not violating the rights of others who wish to entirely avoid cannabis. Additionally, Responsible Consumers do not put others at risk by driving while impaired or under the influence.
Others do not have to smell your stash! Discreetly store and travel with your goods using a LOCKGREEN™ locking, smell-proof, and water-resistant stashboxes.
Respect the Experience
Whether your intake method is smoking cannabis flower, flash vaporizing concentrates (dabbing), or any variety of smokeless consumption methods such as consuming edibles or topical creams, the cannabis experience is versatile and different for each person. However you choose to consume, proper storage is key to maintain the freshness of your product and protect the cannabinoids and terpenes, which are the most valuable compounds in the cannabis plant.
The storage container matters, and the best option varies depending on the product. For example, cannabis flower is best stored in an air-tight, UV-ray blocking glass container with a humidity pack in a cool location, considering that light, air, moisture, and temperature are factors that can degrade its freshness.
Let’s say “goodbye” to plastic baggies and “hello” to proper storage methods that are key in helping you to achieve the optimal experience and desired effectiveness you are looking for!
With plenty of storage space, LOCKGREEN™ locking, smell-proof, and water-resistant stash boxes are the perfect way to lock up your storage container of choice. Follow us on social media to learn more about proper storage methods for all types of cannabis products.
Know the social issues around cannabis
Whether it be a social faux pas or social justice, the topic of cannabis is complex. You know the stereotypes, portraying marijuana users as lazy couch potatoes, and therefore making professionals, parents, seniors and other responsible adults hesitant to talk publicly about their cannabis use. In addition, there is a harsh reality: the same plant that has been weaponized as a tool of racial discrimination against black and brown communities since the 1960s is now behind a multibillion-dollar industry that those same communities hardly have any stake in due to significant capital requirements and other systemic factors.
“War on Drugs policies disproportionately target people of color and particularly Black people, and marijuana laws are a prime example. The proof is in the data: Nationwide, Black people are 3.6 times more likely than white people to be arrested for marijuana, despite similar usage rates.”American Civil Liberties Union, A Tale of Two Countries: Racially Targeted Arrests in the Era of Marijuana Reform, 2020
With only 4% of cannabis businesses owned by African-Americans, we look to do our part to change that, starting with an ancillary business that supports the industry, provides needed protection, and aims to prevent unnecessary interactions with law enforcement.
